How To Save Up To Go Traveling

Traveling is a right of passage which everyone must go through, regardless of their age, and it is an experience which can help you to grow as a person and will give you awesome experiences and the ability to look at the world a little differently. I was talking to a buddy of mine the other day Mack Prioleau about our various experiences when we traveled around the globe and we both agreed that neither of us had saved up sufficiently for our travels. The fact that we were having to travel on a shoestring budget meant that we often had to miss out on potentially awesome experiences.

If you have decided to go traveling then I encourage you to save up as much as you can before you head off and here are some great ways for you to put some cash together for your travels.

Extra Work

Assuming you have a full time job (if you don’t then you need to,) picking up extra income is a great way not only to earn more but also to spend less. You will no doubt hate the idea of finishing one job and then going off and starting a second but trust me, you will be so happy that you suffered for a few months when you are paragliding in the Caribbean or walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

In terms of looking for extra work you should consider working in restaurants or bars, picking up driving jobs for take-aways of delivery services or you could even turn to the internet to see if you can find a way to make money there. There’s always options available for a second income, you just need to find them.

Just Say No

Whilst you are saving your cash it is vital that you stop going out like you used to and you need to get used to saying no to people when they invite you out for drinks or food. It may suck a bit that you cannot go out with your friends but you need to think big picture here, that $100 that you are about to spend partying could get you a plane ticket during your travels or pay for access to Louvre to see the Mona Lisa. Everything is relative and you need to remember that, if your friends truly are your friends then they will totally understand.

Remind Yourself

It will be important that whilst you are doing all of this saving and extra work, that you remember exactly why you are doing it in the first place. In order to remind yourself of this why not get a picture or two printed of the places which you are most excited about seeing. Put the picture in your wallet or purse and then whenever the time comes that you want to spend that extra dollar or quit your second job, you can take a look at the picture and be inspired to keep on going.
