Are you in the market for a new computer desk that will offer optimal comfort but do not want to pay hundreds of dollars for one? If so, then you may actually want to consider the option of building your own ergonomic computer desk. After all, this can be much easier than you think and all you need are a few basic tools and a beginner’s knowledge of woodworking to make it happen. The end result? A custom, comfortable, and user-friendly computer desk that you can be proud of and that does not cost hundreds of dollars!
Gather Your Supplies
The first thing that you will need to do is to ensure that you have all of the necessary supplies for building your desk. This includes purchasing enough of the wood of your choice, in addition to some wood strips, wood screws, a drill, a saw, and even some shelves if you plan on adding shelving to the desk. Fortunately, if you do not want to spend a lot of money on the wood to build your desk, you can usually find it for cheap by going to a thrift or antique store. Consider purchasing an old door or other piece of furniture and then use the wood from that to build the desk.
Measure, Measure, Measure!
Next, you will want to consider the size of the desk that you are looking to build. To do this, be sure to take into account the specific size of the space that you are working with. Then, use a ruler to draw lines and measure the wood several times before making any cuts. If using a saw, you may also want to have some sandpaper to smooth out the edges where you cut the wood. Furthermore, be sure to consider the height at which your desk chair sits so that you can make the desk a comfortable height for you. The typical height for an ergonomic desk is close to 26 inches.
Get to Building
Once all of your pieces are cut, it is time to use your wood nails to put the desk together. Use the wood strips to add support to the desk and secure them with a drill or screwdriver. If you want added support, consider installing shelving brackets underneath the top surface of your desk. These can also be great for additional storage.
From there, all that is left to do is stain or paint your new desk to match the decor in your space and you will be all set!
